If there is a topic of perennial interest, it is the Madras Mosquito which I realized has gained a reputation of sorts country wide. No, I am sure it’s not the media though known to exaggerate and sensational things to survive the cut throat competition it faces, the Madras Mosquito has gained prominence. Certainly it is by word of mouth people far and wide have heard about this invincible tiny creature that has invaded the homes of Chennaiites giving them sleepless nights which have a spill over on their working time. I think people who work from home like me are the worst sufferers not being spared even during our waking hours.
Now coming to the point, when we entered a textile shop while on our visit to Pushkar, the shopkeeper promptly displayed a few bed spreads with camel dezigns going gaga about the vegetable dyes that are used in their making which prevent mosquitoes from coming anywhere near them. Needless to say I jumped at the opportunity and immediately picked up a few though the cost was not too pocket friendly. ‘I am sure you will come back to pick up some more’ said the salesman handing over the huge packet with a smile. I told him he was underestimating the Madras mosquitoes which are the smartest and no one can easily fool them.
I don’t have to say who had the last laugh!
N Meera Raghavendra Rao
Madras Mosquitoes had the last laugh and were probably saying to themselves: ” We are not like the Pushkar fraternity who get so easily distracted from their main goal of biting humans”! Caveat emptor!
Well said. Madras mosquitoes are more focussed, can easily earn a doctorate for their perseverence.
It is time we replace our national bird with mosquito. If not for India, at least for the state of Tamil nadu.
