Unlike any birthday that is celebrated just for a day, birthday of Madras is literally celebrated for a month with talks, walks and plays and ofcourse food festivals offering typical south indian fare. It is an opportunity for writers and authors to write practically on every aspect of the city, its past, present and future. Newspapers are full of information regarding the origin of names of roads, theatres which once existed now giving place to commercial complexes, and how oldtimers feel nostalgic about Madras of old.
I only hope these birthday celebrations will have some impact on Chennaiites and inspire them to bring back the glory of the city known for its tradition and heritage and at the same time give it a cosmopolitan touch as well for which the Chennaiite, especially the gen next who enjoy movies in other languages other than own should get acquainted with one more language atleast.
