Our ‘secret’ trip 18/10/2010

Where do you want to go on a short holiday? Asked my husband.

My husband  giving me the choice of place really took me by surprise.

You mean to say you are leaving the choice to me? I said still not believing him.

Yes, I  want to know if the choice is left to you   where would you like to go, he reiterated.

I thought for a while and said, Bangalore.

Why Bangalore of all the places. I thought you were against visiting the same place twice, he reminded.

Noticing that he  appeared not too happy at my choice, I persisted  and said  why not Bangalore ?

O.K. If that  pleases you. Where  would you like to stay, he asked next.

At  our closest friend’s  place. You know how I long to see  them  and recapture all the nice time we had  before they left Chennai years ago for good, I said.

I thought  you would choose to stay  with your people or my relatives , he said.

Well, not this time  because  I would like to spend all the time  with these friends of ours, I said.  Also  this trip of ours will be a very closely guarded secret, I  assured him.

O.K. What ever you say, he acquiesced without any argument, which was unlike him. Catch  women keeping  something secret, he mocked.

Not before long we landed in Bangalore and headed straight to  our friend’s residence  and were greeted with such warmth and pleasure  by the family. Oh, time just flew  reliving old times  even as our hosts   treated  us to delicious food  and snacks almost throughout  the day during  our stay with them.  Nothing to match home hospitality or the depth of friendship which was so  overwhelming,  I  realized while  taking leave of them.

Aye get up, you sleepy head, have you forgotten today is  a working day for me and you have to pack my food.

I got up with a start !

I hope your dream comes true! I agree with your hubby, why polluted Bangalore of all places? There are so many wonderful sites in Karnataka: Madikere, Mysore, Hampi, Sringeri, to name a few. If you want, I will send you my copy of the Emerald Route by R K Narayan for rereading.

Why I suggested Bangalore was more for the friends I wished to see .When people are important the place doesn’t matter so much. We have visited Madikere,Talacauvery and Mysore.Yet to visit Hampi and Sringeri. Shall certainly like to read Emerald Route .

However, pollution and traffic jams should not deter one from visiting the nice sites in Bangalore (which you would have seen anyway). One place not to be missed is the Visvesvaraya Science Museum. Recently, my son and d-i-l took me there. Thre is nothing like that in Chennai. A must for mechanical engineers (VNK to note please).

I have noted. My grand-uncle Sir M. Visvesvarayya was in his late nineties when he suggested the idea of a science museum to the local Govt. That is why his name is attached to the museum. He also told the committee about the kind of exhibits he would like them to install. However the Govt. is unable to maintain it and run it as per international standards. It should be handed over to a private entrepreneur.
